“Good Books Build Minds” was the motto of the Pottsboro Area Public Library when it was organized May 9, 1985. The library has grown during the past 27 years but the goal has remained the same – to provide materials and services to meet the educational, professional and recreational needs of our community.
The library offers a wide array of material for adults and children in both printed and audiovisual format. Many of the books available at the library are the latest titles from the New York Times Best Sellers List.
In addition to hardbound books, the library also has a wide-range of titles in other formats including audiobooks on cassette and CD and movies in both DVD and VHS formats. So before you head to the books tore, come to the library and see what we have to offer.
The library has joined with the Northeast Texas Digital Consortium to make e-books available to its patrons. Through the consortium, our patrons will be able to check out materials from a shared digital collection of popular titles. E-books will be able to our patrons in late May of early June.
The library also offers public access computers for use by our patrons for a variety of options including accessing facebook, e-mail, conducting a job search or doing homework. If you need assistance with writing your resume, the library subscribes to Resume Writer. The library has free wi-fi if you prefer to bring your own laptop.
For a small fee, patrons may print from the computers, make copies or send or receive a fax.
The library provides both children and adult programming. Children can take part in the summer reading program as well as other programs. And for the adults, programs include a variety of subjects including visiting authors, gardening and computer classes.
Throughout the year, the Friends of the Pottsboro Library conducts various fund raising projects including Trivia Night, Spring luncheon and style show, flower sale and a book sale. In addition, they have Business Partnership Events where various restaurants and businesses designate Library Days/Nights where a portion of sales is donated to the library.
The library has a meeting area available to the public. That area is presently being used by a local book club and by the Pottsboro Senior Center.
This year, the library has gone to the credit-card style of library card. All patrons are encouraged to come to the library and replace their old card with the new one. A library card is required to check our any material from the library and to use the computer.
The library relies on donations and volunteers to make the library function. The Library invites you to join them in making this community resource meaningful by donating time, money and current materials.
